Learning More About Infrared Cameras

Infrared security cameras are right now the hottest selling security camera in the security surveillance field. There are many benefits to owning an infrared camera that make it one of the most adaptable cameras out. Infrared cameras are very different from regular security cameras in their internal circuits. Infrared cameras have special sensors that allow them to measure the amount of light that enters into the camera's field-of-view. When levels of light are shallow, the internal sensor embedded into the camera will enable the infrared LED lights. This technology forces a camera's lens to take in infrared wave-lenghts, those wave-lenghts then adapt black and white video. The infrared wave-length is so much longer than normal color (natural) light, thus why infrared light is the best light in total darkness. However, when light levels return to a normal state, the security camera's internal sensor will detect it and turn off the infrared LED bulbs. During this optimal level of light the camera will render high resolution video. That is what sets infrared cameras apart from regular color only security cameras. If you have a developing CCTV application where you need to be able to see in the day and in the night, then you have really no choice but to purchase an infrared security camera.

There Are Different Models Of Infrared Cameras

In the CCTV industry, infrared technology has been implemented into many different styles of cameras. You can find that early on, bullet cameras were the main cameras that had this technology. Because bullet cameras just 8 years ago exploded onto the scene, primarily due to their ability to resist weather and other harsh weather conditions. There was a great demand for a camera that could handle virtually any problem and on a consistent level. So you have the very first infrared camera. The development of these infrared bullet cameras were so successful, that Chinese manufactures made infrared technology possible in dome cameras, ptz cameras, and some c-mount cameras. All in all now, there are infrared bullet cameras, infrared dome cameras, infrared ptz cameras, and infrared c-mount cameras. You can find many different styles of each different class. In bullet infrared cameras, there are literally hundreds of different types of bullet cameras. Each different model varies based on its capabilities. You have some infrared bullet cameras with 14 infrared LED lights and some with as many as 42 infrared LED lights. Again each model has a unique purpose. The same thing also developed for dome cameras. There are many different models that all do something uniquely different.

Infrared Cameras Work Best In Outdoor CCTV Applications

When it comes to the integration of infrared cameras, we recommend that end-users implement these cameras outdoors. There are many reasons why. Infrared LED lights are very powerful lights. Their sole purpose is to shine brightly to render a good video shot. As a result, they need to be able to shine with a lot of depth. This is important in the dark, because one has to be able to see at a certain distance to guarantee visibility. Trying to use an infrared camera indoors is not always a good thing, especially because the infrared LED lights emit very far. Using this kind of camera in an enclosed area with walls that are less than 15 feet apart will cause a wash-out in video. There are however, so indoor applications where you can use infrared cameras. Indoor buildings with spacious areas, open warehouses, hangers, and many other large indoor rooms, will not have a problem with infrared cameras. However, just remember that outdoor elements are free of any restrictions or walls. This is the reason why they work so well, they are shoot light into the vast darkness without and limitations. If you are unsure about the dimensions of your indoor rooms and you are interested in having an infrared camera added to your CCTV setup, talk to a consultant and get a direct answer and focal point to build each zone of security.
